Top flap over the 1/4 rear windows

Keeping it sharp - paint, wax, detailing, etc.

Top flap over the 1/4 rear windows

Post by barnesjtsl »

Have just installed a new top. Everything went very well and it looks very good.

One problem. The instructions said to glue the flaps of vinyl above the rear 1/4 windows. Right now they are just hanging there, because for the life of me I can't see how to go about glueing them to the rear window?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

As far as I know, because I just put a new canvas top on my car. Nothing gets glued to the rear quarter windows. Mine has Velcro attached to the rim of the glass going down the back side and when the top is up, the Velcro holds it in place and when you lower the top, you can hear the Velcro release because the window and top don't touch each other while the top is down. I hope that helped you a little bit. Now I did have to use rubber cement or contact adhesive to glue the two pieces together that makes the "tunnel" for the convertible frame. 3 of them I believe and after a few days when it was nice and hot out, I had to release the metal strip across the back of the bottom and stretch the canvas tighter so the back window didn't have the vertical ripple it had from installing it cold.

I am getting ready to replace my top too. I believe what you are referring to is vinyl/canvas flaps that get glued to the top bow just above the 1/4 window. I can take pictures of mine when I get home from work.

I am talking about "Step 22" in the instructions linked below:

Here is a pic of the area in question. I will apologize in advance for the crude type, the text box wasn't working. My top is partially removed so it was easy to get this pic so let me know if you want any others.

Hmm... I don't know if this is the same, but I have flaps on the inside of my roof that are just hanging there, and i already installed the top. I didn't know what they were for and now they just hang there freely. I haven't noticed any leaks or anything so it doesn't really seem to matter...
