Carb upgrades

Post by Danno »

ok, I've spent forever cleaning this carb, i'm hoping it'll work. BUT, in case it doesn't what options do I have? I know there are dual carb setups. What about using an older carb off of a 1.8L, seems like someone mentioned that. point me in the right direction here, cause i just might be interested!

wow, to answer my own question: look here where this guy explains it all so well!

http://www.mirafiori.com/~corey/How-To/Carb.htm

looks like I wanna go with a 34 DMSA or maybe a 32 ADFA on a 1800 manifold. Both seem to be popular and easy, and provide the best bang for my buck.

which one would y'all suggest I use?

the 34s are hard to come by, Fiat only used them as oe for one year and accordingly they'll be more expensive if you can find one

how about a 34 DMTR, i keep seeing that pop up as an option?

do you know a good cheap source for the 1800 intake manifold? (and the carb if you know one!)

manifolds are fairly easy to come by, I'd be careful about spending too much for a used carb though. You never know what a PO has done to them.

Mark, should I risk making an offer on thisoff of ebay?

The price seems high for that ratty looking carb. I don't think the 32s are that hard to come by.

i made an offer of $65 bucks but he didn't accept it, so I wasn't sure whether to increase my offer or just keep looking.

he apparently has something like 48 hours to accept any offers made on the part. I just made my second offer of $64. I guess he can take it or leave it. there was one previous offer there (but i don't know for how much) and he didn't accept that one either, so as far as I know I'm the only interested party. I'll just keep bringing it down a dollar every couple of days and he can either accept now or never sell it. or maybe he'll get lucky and someone will take him up on his Buy it now price, but if that happens I won't feel bad, cause I've offered what I'm willing to pay!

now that Weber is back in production, new 32/36 carbs are available, but they aren't cheap. Allow about $400 for a brand new one

that would have been a sweet option, but I'm happy with the 32 I got WITH 1800 intake manifold for about half that!
