So I see this ad in the local paper for a complete but non-running 78 Fiat for $900. And out of curiousity I go over to check it out. I get there and see a 79 with a bunch of rust on the front hood and fenders, 4 flats, back seat ripped out and most of the top end of the engine where said seat was, Velour seats and door panels (hideous brown color) and no visors. Apparently it has been sitting for 6 yrs uncovered. For a parts car there really wasn't too much to be salvaged.
I offered them $300 to take it off their hands and was promptly told that "parts cars for Fiat Spiders usually go for $2500 so $900 wasn't a stretch". I gave them my number and told them to call when they were serious. How are some ppl so disallusioned?
Sorry, just had to rant........

Wow... they should have jumped at $300, I'd say.

You should have told him that "Cash for Clunkers" is if the car is running and driveable. $50 is all it is worth. The scrap metal guy wont even come out to pick it up, it doesn't weight enough. Just move on, there are lots more out there.

I totally agree with everyone here. Seems that every jerk that has something vaguely valuable thinks it a classic or a rare treasure and wants bu-koo bucks for it. I was talking to a guy the other day and it was pretty much the same exact story. Said he was going to take the 79 spider to the crusher in a week but was trying to sell some parts off it first. Wanted 50 bucks for the door hinges and valued the dash gages at 100 bones. PFFFT! I told him I only wanted them because I thought it was a waste to crush the parts and that I don't actually need them. Anyway, thanks for getting it off your chest so I can add my complaint on top.
