hello, redruby. welcome to the forum. please be sure to stop by the introduction section and tell us about yourself and your car.

i'd suggest that you'd contact someone who is parting out a Spider and swap some seats from a parts car.

World upholstery sells the front and rear seats in vinyl for $400. Is that too much. You will have to install then over the old frame yourself, but not too hard.

You might do a search on seat swaps. There have been many, many discussions here on this subject.I know some of the popular ones have been Miata and early Honda Civic.

My 2 cents.

I put in seats from an early 80's Iszuzu Trooper until I figure what i am doing to the interior. They fit good and look alright. If you have a U-pull-it type junk lot near you take some measurments of your seat and wonder around the lot.
If i remeber correctly the seat rail bolts are 12x16. After i walked around for awhile looking in small cars i jokingly looked in the trooper. The bolt pattern was the same and the rest of dimensions where close.

Alternatively, find a pair of name-brand aftermarket seats that you like on your local Craigslist or on eBay. Often used pairs of Corbeau, Cobra, Sparco, etc. seats turn up there for pretty cheap. Then just buy the mounting brackets for a Fiat 124 Spider from whichever company your seats are from.

I ended up finding a pair of Corbeau Classic seats (vintage looking buckets) locally on Craigslist for $300. They normally sell for $300 each. They came with El Camino brackets and sliders. I took the sliders off (they are universal) and sold just the El Camino brackets on eBay for $50. Then, I bought the Fiat brackets from Corbeau for $50 each and bolted the universal sliders to them. Total cost, $350 for what would have been $800 brand new! The seats are in perfect shape! Pics to come as I complete my interior. Just got new carpet in, but am still making new door panels out of project board and vinyl that I bought locally.

I'm 6'1 and I have a terrible time fitting into my spider. I needed the lowest possible seats so i ended up going with racing seats. they are like 3" off the sheetmetal to your butt hole. But I still have to tip the seat way back and my head is tilted while trying to drive with the top on. I am going to eventually be taking off some sheetmetal and lowering the seats even further. It just seems hard for me to think some of you can just put a truck seat or any old car seat in this tiny fiat and have pleanty of head room. The hardest part is getting your head into the car with the top up. Am I the only one with this problem?

You must have really short legs and a long trunk. I'm 6'2"+ and I've never had a problem getting in or out - top up or down. My legs are probably a bit long for my height, but not much. I have the seat all the way back of course, but not raked much so my arms are still bent a bit with hands on the wheel.

After removing the seat rails from the trooper seat it was almost the same exact dimensions overall. The seat back is about 1-2 inches higher and the bottom cusion is about 1 inch bigger (front to back)also. If I would have mounted it using the trooper rails I would be looking over the winshield. I am 5'10 and have inches between my head and thge roof when closed.

I'm 6' and have no problems at all, with the seat all the way back I have plenty of room. I do hate driving with the top up, it just seems wrong, so unless it's really cold or really wet I don't.

My 2 cents..I am 6'1 and also have no trouble with the stock seats,as far as room or ability to get in or out.I do feel the seats could have more side support, under spirited driving I find myself bracing to stay in good position. My biggest problem with the car is the pedal position.Has anyone ever attempted to stagger the gas pedal back?

Does anyone know the difference between the slip on covers from IAP $335 and the world upholstery covers for $399?
