part interchange capability

Post by narfire »

Perhaps there was a post in the past, but I've noticed that volvo seems to have a few parts that are compatable with the fiat. The "U" joints I remember from my prevoius life with the 70 packed it in and went to the local fiat dealer. They were also a Volvo dealer and the parts guy said use these(Volvo) cheaper and they fit just the same. The valve shims are the same,my neighbor at work has buckets of volvo parts including all the shims I need. Matt mentioned A Volvo motor mount can be substituted to get the engine to sit a bit lower.
Any other bits people have found that are interchageable?

Good information Chris.

I've found various FI components are identical with those in VW, Porsche, BMW. For example, the fuel pressure regulator is exactly the same as in one of the BMW "five" series from the eighties. (I can't recall which one I bought, used, last year, might have been from a 535.) It is pretty easy to find used BMW parts around here.

That's funny you mentioned Volvo parts. I've heard VW and Yugo (if any are still alive). After failing to find a working Aux air valve - I bought 2 on-line, and neither worked - a mechanic got one off of a Volvo and got it to work. Not sure which model, but the part looks similiar. I could use some advice on whether or not I can expect this to function for very long.
