Greetings all and let me repeat what others have said about this
being a great site and resource. With that said, I'm about to
take the leap with a 78 spider and would apprecdiate the wisdom
of the members about what I should check to avoid something that
would cost too much to bring back to a very good driver machine
and not have to worry about something breaking as I flung it down Blood Mountain.
I would be willing to put a couple thou in to it I will have access to
it for the next couple of weeks in the garage on jackstands. I should
be able to post pics of trouble spots I am aware of and anything else
anyone suggests. I will be towing it with a uhaul tow dolly from western
PA to north GA(about 700 miles) and read a post about checking the tranny
and rear end fluids. Anything else I need to be aware of? Has anyone ever
heard about a red 78 lemon in the Pittsburgh area?
Thanks in advance for what I'm sure is going to be a great learning experience
for me.
Let it flow,
Pappy
a good car?
Re: a good car?
Sounds like you are doin your homework! Thats the great part of this and other forums. It saves you alot of time by researchin ahead of time, and as you build, you can address the troubled spots too! I think the best rule on a 30plus old car is to replace the old rubber items first, a new bearing pulley with the T belt, new guibo ( driveshaft flex joint ) , and so-forth. Welcome, and congrats!
