Canvas or Vinyl top

Post by MNspiderman »

Canvas or Vinyl top, which is better? I personally bought a brand new canvas top knowing that the window will generally wear out before the top will. But on the other hand, I read somewhere that Spiders only came with Vinyl tops from the factory because canvas is too thick and will bunch up when putting the top down. I personally haven't had any issues at all with my canvas top even though its only been a few months. As far as the boot is concerned, I don't have one nor do I wish to buy one. I think the mechanical parts of the convetible look really cool all tucked down there. Has anyone had any issues with canvas bunching up when opening or maybe the vinyl is too cheap and tears alot?

Seen both, owned both . . . both types worked well on my car. To me there are only two real differences between them.
1. I think the canvas top is better looking than the vinyl.
2. The vinyl top was easier to keep clean.

I have a car with each, the canvas one looks better when first put up, (less wrinkles), but it harder to keep clean, the vinyl one has more wrinkles when put up, but looks good after it is up a while plus it's easier to clean. I'd say it's a toss up and mostly depends on how much time you spent with the top up.

Is there any difference in sound when you have the top up :?:

sound? crank the radio! unless your car was built different than mine, the top will not fit well at the windows and air will wanna leak in (along with rain). additionally, neither the canvas or the vinyl is double or triple layered, which eventually results in the irritating flapping sounds.

driving a convertible with the top up more than down is crazy! why did we buy a convertible to begin with? unless you wanna strive for winning shows and looking good with the top UP, strongly consider a vinyl top and save the difference for repair and maintenance items you'll eventually be needing anyway.

depending on what color you end up getting, even a vinyl top will eventually get something on it that just WON'T clean off. besides.... either cloth or vinyl, the eventual wear locations are the same... seams are secondary to the dang plastic window. good luck keeping that window scratch and fog free for the life of the top.

go VINYL.
