Has any ever really done a 100 point restoration that would require finding sources for all the plastic clamps and dodads that Fiat used? Every plastic mounting disintegrates when I try to remove it. I know there are other things that could be used but the things that Fiat used are kind of unique.

There have been a few people I've talked to at the Freakout who tried to retore their car to complete original. If you're looking for certain odds and ends, there are many of us that part cars out and hoard all the bits and pieces. We may be able to help you get what you need. When I restored mine, I didn't know about the forums or the following these cars have so I used what was readily available when an original piece was beyond repair.

i understand your question, but i don't personally know of any judges or shows that would go into that amount of detail for our vehicles.... best o luck to you

If you are looking for those odds and ends, I probably have them. I saved EVERYTHING from two parts cars, one early, one late. Wiring looms, plastic clips, rubber floor drain plugs, pass through rubber grommets, plastic sheaths that cover the metal tabs that hold back bundles of wire, every nut, bolt, spring, washer etc. etc.

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to do a 100 pt restoration but some of the odd pieces would do better than what is commonly available(cheap sh-t). My 69 had a bracket that held the brake line and the battery cable across the firewall. Things like that would be nice to find. This car sat in the desert for 23 years and the sun did nasty things to all the plastic.

Here are 3 plastic things that I need. Matt you indicated originally you might have the bracket that holds the battery cable and brake line. They are difficult to remove intact, the center press to lock device goes into a covered area. The other 2 items were used on later cars. My 69 used rubber sleeves for both and mine were so hard I had to break them to remove. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I gotta admit I am being anal about my '72, and for the most part trying to get all the stupid little details right. Not that I am restoring it, but for whatever reason I like em to be basicly original. I have two parts cars, so far have not had to search to hard for stuff.

My 71 and 72 have all the original plastic doodads on them and I've made sure to keep the odd stuff when I part a car out just in case there are people like me in the world. Doesn't look like I'm alone!

your alright with us. you dunn have to explain your desire to go ALL original. i have heard several individuals over the years profess that the hunt for the parts is half the fun. I have a good friend in Chicago that reminds me of that every time he comes up with an early 60's car to restore.majicwrench wrote:Hal,

me personally, it is about function. if the sheet metal stays basically intact... the function of the other parts is critical to me. best o luck with your quest.
