On my '82, it appeared to have been attached by self tapping scews at one time. I say this because there was "volcanos" on the lower valance where the screws pulled out when someone hit something and ripped the spoiler off. I thought about using plastic clips so if it hits something it'll pull off instead of tacoing the valance, but ended up using nuts & bolts, so the opposite will most likely happen.

Got mine from SoCal Mark. I installed a length of 1/2" x 1/4" black neoprene self adhering weather stripping along the mounting edge. It cushions it against the body and paint, fills in minor gaps between the spoiler and body, and most importantly if you go over a high speed bump or scrape the spoiler on an incline it will flex without transfering that force to the sheet metal. Mounted with stainless steel through bolts with nylock nuts.
