new vendor
I purchased gauges for my 78 spider from performance fiat and had nothing but probelms form the install (which the vendor said goes right in with no mod), also the product is grabage gauges have condensation like the old ones mentioned this to the vender owner Val and he said next time you have the dash out sit the gauges out in the sun. To make things short this venderdoes not sell good products all come from Russia. Nick
Re: new vendor
so, did you set the gauges out in the sun, and did that work?

Re: new vendor
Lada parts, I hope the trans rebuild kit I bought is good, we'll soon find out. I bought an ign switch, (Lada) $40.00 and it's the exact same Obert sells for $110.00,(Obert says his is a Lada switch and lists it as his "premium" one). I have problems with gauge condensation, even my new a/f ratio gauge gets it, might just me the way it is unless you live in the desert.mbouse wrote:so, did you set the gauges out in the sun, and did that work?

It's funny you said this nibbles,
I was just looking at the white guages from them. Are these the guages you have? They look nice. Not cheap= $299

Re: new vendor
In his defense, I've had very good experiences with Val. He followed up on the sale, when I had a problem he offered to take the part back (turned out the problem was not due to his part), and checked in to make sure I was satisfied.
Re: new vendor
I will no longer get fogged up gauges again ever!
OK... I'll let everyone in on my secret... the bulbs cause a lot of heat ( LEDs for bulbs are best), some of the gauges have up to 4-5 lights each... since the heat has to go somewhere it heats up the glass which in turn causes the humidity in the gauges to condensate/heat up, etc. after a while you'll get the clouded lenses, etc.
What I did was drill several 1/16 - 1/8 inch holes (about 4-5 holes), after cleaning up the mess and vacuuming the gauges of all drilled plastic, I get fine ribbon/mesh (best is Polyester fabric ribbon) and cut a piece larger than the holes and either epoxy/crazy glue it on making sure the holes are able to breathe... now install everything back on the car... the gauges will breathe and never fog up again no matter the temp outside.

Re: vendor bashing
Hi Nick,
very sorry you aren't happy with the gauges! I wish you'd read my email before making public posts like this. We work hard on keeping our reputation in good standing. And posts like this can be very destructive! In the future, please give us a chance to correct any issues, before making such statements.
With all due respect, the gauges are equal to or surpass OEM quality, and are not "garbage". I did provide you with simple instructions on how to rewire your alternator warning light correctly to suit your car. As for the condensation issue, don't know what to think. If the moisture got in, it needs to be dried out.
"Made in Russia": it's no secret that Fiat had stopped supporting the 124 model long ago. Eastern Europe remains the only major market for 124-based models, Lada being the big one. You can buy many parts here, or pay x2 from other resellers, and still likely get the same part, simply because there are no alternatives. The quality of parts we get from Eastern Europe is very good. The myth of bad quality "made in Russia" needs to go away, because it isn't true.
Everything we sell is backed by money back guarantee, so please use that option, if not completely satisfied.
Thank you!
Val D.

Re: new vendor
Like DougC I've also had nothing but good experiences with Val at Performance Fiat. Answered all of my questions (5 phone calls) and the prices are pretty good.
Radiator fan switch, 92*-87*C $14.99
2 ft of Brake fluid reservoir hose, 8mm braded original $9.99
Brake Booster overhaul kit $19.99 (for 20 bucks why not try it out)
Thermostat Fiat 124, Lancia Scorpion $19.98 (The one in the pic is plastic he also has the metal one made in France which I bought).
Radiator expansion bottle cap $1.99
Priority shipping was under $10
I didnt see anything that said "Made in Russia". And no I'm not associated with this vendor I just had a good experience using them and dont feel that its fair to generalize their service as poor by one bias opinion.
radiopilot, thats a good idea. thx.

Re: new vendor
LOL, so you old Fiat factory gauges were junk also? And you expected an upgrade? Were you expecting "CHINA"? Would that have made you feel better.nibbes123 wrote: also the product is grabage, gauges have condensation like the old ones
Russia built a lot of the Fiat autos in their country and has parts manufactures still making the aftermarket parts need for those cars. Alot of those parts match up to the Spider. I am thankful that they still make them.
What exactly was the problem with the fit on the gauges that you got? I would think that the only fit problem would be the size of the hole they fit in.

Re: new vendor
I haven't purchased anything from Val/Performance Fiat, yet. This past Monday I sent an email with a question about the power window motor for my '83. I received a response in 3 minutes and provided me with the information I was looking for.

Just bought the booster overhaul kit since mine is dead (vac pulsing and hissing while pressing the pedal) ... will report back once I install it (couple of weeks maybe).

Re: new vendor
Seems like such a pissey little thing to trash a vendor about. Val and I have dealt in the past, and will again...

Re: new vendor
FWIW, my brand new Autometer voltmeter fogs up exactly at the same rate and intensity as my Veglia gauges . They all clear up after the lamps burn off the accumulated humidity.

Re: new vendor
Bottom line to every one that replied, I e-mailed Val and told him it's not the money issue for I paid 330 dollars CDN and would expect good quality gauges and no I did not do it for the upgrade just at nite the gauges are too dark because of the black back ground plus I wear eyeglasses.
Re: new vendor
Not to nitpick on you, but you first said that there was an install problem and now there is a lighting problem. I am sure that you were disappointed in some aspects. Ask us what problems you are having and see if we cant help you with the problem. If it is lighting, probably not the fault of the gauges, we can help you with that problem.
