Heater box question

Post by Baz »

In the process of painting, my guy broke off one of the heater pipes coming out of the engine bay bulkhead. I have a new pipe and have taken off the old one with much crunching of 60 yo bones. My question is that the old pipe did not appear to have any sort of gasket to it. Should there be a gasket ??? should it be rubber with perhaps some adhesive or sealer ??

Can anyone help.

Thanks

Baz

Mine had a rubber gasket with a raised ring around the water hole, sort of like a built in O-ring.
Being rubber, I didn't put any sealer on it when I changed out my heater core.
I haven't checked, but I'm sure the normal vendors would have the gaskets.

Yep, it needs that rubber gasket or you'll have a major spew of hot coolant. Matt Brannon suggested using a sealer as well as the gasket but that was after I installed it.

Yep! needs a gasket. Just going for 4 in-a-row.
