Velcro on Spider tops?

Post by artrite »

Top makers and installers all want to put velcro where the sides meet the windows. Does anyone remember how they originally came? Or when/why it was switched to velcro? We had a new 68 spider and I don't remember having to fumble with velcro and the manuals don't mention it either. Thanks!

As far as I know, it has been velcro from day one. It needs to come apart at that junction for folding, to allow it to fold neatly without putting a lot of stress on the rear window or side seams.

The velcro is bonded in the quarter window, just on top side of it.

Here you have a picture:

Once closed the top, the velcro helps this area to avoid turbulence and water. You mast ches also the tension cable. If is not correctly tensioned, you will have one or two cm. separation with the window.

Here you have some adveces to install a new top, (sorry, it´s in spanish!)
