Sorry, but letting go my project - lots of parts

Post by katsi »

Yes, I have decided to let go that wonderfull pile of mine to the left of this post. I am going to miss her. But, I just purchased a 1979 that has no rust at all. Drove it home, 60 + miles, and made it. That's about all I cam claim - the lack of rust. Barly made it. Definate carb problems to get rid of. Started bogging really bad at about 30 miles into the drive. Kinda like, WHA - lurch foward, WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,, downshift into 4th - OK, whaaaaaaaaaaaa -WHA - lurch foward, WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward, Up shift into 5th Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, hit 60 MPH, WHA - lurch foward, WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward, Down shift into 4th, Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! up to about 55. Shift into fifth - 60 mph, 5 minutes smoothe, don't go faster- WHA - lurch foward, WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward, Down shift into 4th, WHA - lurch foward, WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward,WHA - lurch foward, Up shift into 5th and on and on for the next 40 miles.

By the time I got close to home, the Wha, lur... you get the drift, started in 3rd gear. and went on and on into 2nd and 1st. Made it but bogging serriously by the time I got her home.

Fires right up with the turn of the key but idel's up and down.

Really clean car though! Really clean. Springs still original black. A-frams - original black - trunnk - clean - Rust - does not exist on this one! I believe that he Speedo is original at 32K. Just not enough damage on the rest of the car to prove that wrong.

I really have to post pictures.

Any thoughts?

Congrats on your new purchase. It sounds like you have the same luck as I do with X19s! :? Since it's a carbed car, it's probably a fuel problem. How close are you to Dallas? You might be able to talk Csaba into looking at it for you.

Another car... good for you. I/we hope this works out well for you. Gonna miss those post from your trials and tribulations from your last car,I hate to laugh at ones misfortunes but some were rather funny.
Sounds like carb and likely fuel delivery issues, swap out the fuel filter, drain the tank(I loosened the tank fill hose) and look for rust ect. Might have to pull the tank and give it a rinse. I bought a tank recondition kit here for about $60 cdn and has worked great. I understand the original carb on the 79 was rather anemic and the manifold /carb swap you were doing on your previous car would give the new one a bit more zip.
I hope the brakes are good :)

Just leave it like it is. It would be great for the martinis that are "shaken, not stirred".

Well, thanks for all the support. I have been driving the new car all day just around town. It stalls a lot at stop lights and sometimes when you go to start it, it just kinda does this clicking. I believe it's the starter solinoid? Any thoughts?

Also, some of the guys from the fiat club stopped by to see it this morning after the car show in Houston. Everyone really liked it. Apparently, the rims on it are these really rare Fiat rims and are stock to this car. They are stamped Fiat and Cromolly or something. I believe that they are the same rims that were on the Fiat Dino. Or at least, that's what everyone said.

Finally, for all the great attributes of the car it does have one really bad drawback. ALthough, it is a 2000 and the motor is a 2000 and has all the smog parts of a 2000, it does not have an electronic distributor. It was made in late 78 and came with points instead. Good thing I have an electronic one sitting in the garage. Look for posts on how to install that puppy.

I will post pics soon.
