Installing New Hood Liner

Post by markpink »

Hi. Everyone.

I am going to my first car show this Sunday in Brookline Mass. at the Tutto Italiano Italian Car show at the Larz Musueum of transportation. So I wanted to fix one of the ugly things on my car.

My 1977 spider did not come with a hood-liner. Now I just found out recently that the hood is not the original hood., It has the two bumps in the hood. I am told this is from a Spider 2000 or above.

I ordered the Hood-liner from mr Fiat on http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Fiat-124 ... 607wt_1167

The Ebay add did not specify the hood-liner was for specific fiat 124 models.
Are their different hood-liners for different models.

Do I have the right one. If Not can I cut it to fit? They only have 1 model available.

How do I attach it to the hood. Do I use some type of glue. Or Is it supposed to fit in the recesses in the hood?

Thanks

Mark

Mark,

That looks like the wrong liner, I think that is ealry cars only. My 80 FI double bubble hood has a sort of molded 1 piece liner held on by clips all around the edges similar to a door panel. Give me a few minutes and I'll post a ppicture.

Here's what mine looks like. Very thin sort of molded foam stuff.

BTW, when I lived in South Weymouth they always used to have a really good show every year in Dedham. It was huge, couple thousand cars. Is this the same one?

The huge Dedham show you are thinking about is probably this: http://www.bsaac.com/

The show this Sunday is at the Museum of Transportation in Brookline, Mass. If you like Italian cars, this show is a must.

See http://www.mot.org for more info.

I will be there with a black 1983. I hope to see you there.

Jon,

Yeah, that's the dedham show I remember; as well as going to the Brookline show now that I see the pictures. Unfortunately is is a bit of a hike now that I live in SC versus taxachusetts!

Good luck at the show.

Ok,

I am not going crazy. It didn't look like it fit. This is the fun of having a FrankenFiat. In the last year, I have found out I have a 1977 Fiat that has seats, hood, and dashboard from later models. They all look fine and like they belong. But I have to be careful when I order things. I ordered replacement seat covers a few months ago and wondered why they didn't fit. Then I ran into an ex fiat mechanic who told me I have a FrankenFiat. 1977 that was restored with parts from other model year cars. And the Seats were probably 1982 or later.

I guess I will try and send these back and try to find one somewhere. There is some sort of orange glue residue all over the inside of the hood and I am really sick of looking at it.

Thanks for the replies.

I will see at least one of you at the show on sunday.

Mark--don't give up to soon. Your 77 should have the same hood as my 78 which has the "bumps" on it. I don't remeber when they came out with these hoods but it was earlier in the 70's--74 or 75. My hood liners(plural) is a 2 piece system that is glued in. If the pieces you have fit in the cavities without being too small or with excessive overhang then you probably have the right ones. Good luck Jim

Toward the end of Fiat, all the cars were FrakenFiats. They used what ever stock they had to fit the cars. At least I think that's what I read somewhere.
