Rear Clipers

Post by joephish »

Hello all. This is a follow up to last years rear caliper issue. I removed the rear calipers to rebuild them last week. They were stuck and full of sludge. Just a simple rebuild. Ordered a kit From Bruces and be on he road for my daughters wedding on Saturday. But to my surprise the seals were too small. It seems that I have larger calipers on the rear. Has anyone had this experience?

Thank you for your help.

Do the rear calipers look exactly like the front calipers? Are you without an emergency/parking brake? Its possible the previous owner removed the stock rear calipers and installed front calipers.

If they are indeed Fiat rear brake calipers with the parking brake provision please share a picture of the calipers or give us the numbers molded into the caliper body.

Just don't park on a hill.

Yep, there is two different rebuild kits for the rear brakes a 35mm and 38mm kit. I'm guessing the larger kit is for the 84-85 calipers.

Thanks all for your help. The calipers are 38mm with an ebrake lever, Bruce thinks they maybe from a Lancia, There is only an insignia and numbers on them, no name. I will get a photo of them this weekend.

Yeah, I have just one of those on the rear of mine. If I am right, the piston was chrome plated and BIG and the regular one was small and maybe made of stainless steel or something. But i remember i couldn't put my kit on either.

Thanks to all for your help. Was able to get 38mm rebuild kit, all went smooth. Also freed up the compensator while I was underneath. Next up is some maintenance on the gear box and rear axle.
