Sorry about my original post here about the electrical system. I did not realize that their was a specific place for those types of problems. Although, I see the reason now for having that whole mess separated from the general dogmatic problems that we here are all plagued with from time to time. Anyway, thought you would all get a kick out of my latest mechanical blunder . I originally posted that I was getting a really hot ground when testing my lighting system. Alot of my wires have either been cut, re-routed or plane old chewed trrough by rats and mice. So, as a result, sometimes I just abandon whatever original wireing that exists and just run new wireing according to the manual. So, I was having some problems testing and getting things to work and the ground to the battery was getting really hot within a few seconds. Seems that when I rewired the front turnsignal to the rear lights via the fuse box, I just "Temporarally" connected the new wires to the existing ones running to the rear of the car (tapped into the harnes running down the driver's side to the trunk). Well, I just twisted them together and somhow they got moved and connected themselves to the body of the car. Now that they are properly spliced together, I am happy to say that my lighting system, turn signals and running lights are all working properly.

Many of my difficulties could be easily avoided by reading the manual first, rather when the smoke appears. My most recent Thriller was testing my newly-installed cruise control. Upon engagement, the system wouldn't disengage I had to push in the clutch and kill the ignition before redlining the motor. Fortunately, I didn't lock the steering column. That's one time the long throw of the Fiat ignition key sequence was appreciated!

Audiovox CCS-100, about $100 on the Internet. Still working on fine-tuning but should be a real leg-saver on those long trips. This plus the GPS should insure we don't finish last in next year's Dixie Rally

I have personally seen Bernie's cruise control and it is too cool! I thought I was clever putting my cell phone into the unused ashtray,but Bernie one-upped us all. How was the trip home from DFF?

The rally rules and regulations specifically state the use of a GPS is prohibited...unless you're planning to get lost!
A GPS woulda really been nice since the county decided to take a bridge out in the middle of our rally and we were all trying to figure out how to get back on track.

Oh, I thought you stopped at a roadside fruit stand for a snack or something.
I'll tell you who I was most proud of. That rally was my mother's first one and I didn't know if she'd like it or not, especially with my sister driving her big ole Buick but she enjoyed it and now has her 3rd place trophy proudly displayed on her bookcase.

We did stop at that convenience store on the corner where we turned left I kept thinking we were way early, even with two cars in our mirrors!
That was our first rally, too, and we enjoyed it wrong turns and all!
Nice to have some things to do at these events for the non-drivers.

I spent 5 minutes at the store at the end of Denises street! The rally was a blast and should be a part of every event.That was my first,also.Next time I am gonna just drive and not think so much!! My daughter was timing every time we slowed down,then urging me to ''speed up'' to make up for lost time. She really took it seriosly and it was so much fun for me to have her as my navigator
