I agree with you Mike, But it has taken me close to two years to get my car where I can do a 1000km trip feeling confident. Now my turn signals are acting up in the stalk, gona have to change that out. Tools I carry fit in a shoebox, fire ext. and 1st aid kit are larger. A cell phone is a must, but only is as good as the coverage, this is a big province and seems we have more area that does not have cell coverage than does, hence the tools and a few parts.

just returned from a visit to Ontario... wowzers, those roaming charges and text messaging fees are astounding!!

although, i am still enjoying the "will send you a bill in the mail" toll road fees..

if you are persistent, reliability will come for you and your Spider. i did not think twice about the round trip to Canada in my '80. i am planning a 'round Lake Michigan' adventure for the '78 next season. these cars were built to drive, and i intend to make sure they live up to their destiny.

like denise said, it is not possible to plan for every contingency.. in a Spider, or a modern car for that matter. carrying every conceivible spare part and tool is a waste of time and fuel economy; besides the loss of storage for tourist trinkets for the return trip.
