Is it Fiat original or from another make ?

You know about Abarth Spiders - they had IRS.

Interesting conversion. This looks like a semi trailing arm solution lifted from one of the many Japanese sports cars (due to the 4.5" bolt circle). Among the many it could be from:

Third generation Toyota Celica GT-S A60 Series (1982-1985) and or its related Supra variant
Nissan 200SX, 240SX 300ZX, 200SX, original 510, 610 and a few others

After looking around it appears to be a Subaru rear diff and rear suspension.

It is also similar to the E21 BMW rear end but BMW never put the spring perches behind the arm, always on top and the CVs are not like the European style.

This pic is of a Subie rear diff:

This is I believe an R160 but I am not entirely sure.

So do you have more pics or part numbers on any of the parts that might help ID the origin of this mod?

How does it drive? My experience with semi trailing arms is you'll need to watch the lift throttle oversteer. Interesting mod in any case.

It seems like it could be a neat conversion, but the lower spring perch doesn't inspire much confidence.

Ok so now im thinking about keeping the set up and cleaning it up some......make it safer/safer looking. NOw i need to ask another Q does any one make flairs for these cars cause ive found nothing here,or am i ganna have to make my own? and what spring rates are best suted for these cars i know i will search in a little bit when i am more awake. any other ideas of what i may be missing or have to rethink, open to everyones ideas.

thanks in advance

I would love to see as many pics as you are willing to share.

Full side views
Images of the subframe and its attachment to the body
Some more images of the bottom from the front rear and so on.

You might think about taking the spring off of one side and then taking a series of pics of the full motion of the rear suspension arm. As it is now the spring isn't anywhere near properly engaged with the bottom spring perch. It suggests that the perch and shock mount should be further forward on the suspension arm. You could likely lose some weight off the arm by getting rid of that thick lump of steel and likely removing the original spring perch that is hanging off the very back of the semi trailing arm. The spring perch should likely be horizontal at normal ride height, its not clear that it would be from those pics with the suspension at full droop.

In any case very interesting.

How about pics of the brakes and while you are at it of the front suspension. If its this different out back what's it like up front? Since the front wheel PCD is different how have they done so as I don't think the normal hubs would easily accommodate the large circle.

After looking around i think that the rear suspension is out of a 300zx.I'm not too sure on the diff, but ill have a 300 here next weekend and im gana get lots of pics and clean both up so i can make sure everythings the same. Once i know everythings the same ill get new lower A-arms? and start from scratch to get everything strait and safer, safer looking. but we got everything running this last week still not idiling but running good.

Image

Well she still need flairs but i know where to get them. the rear whels stick out about 1.5" with a 225/45 R16 in the rear
the front looks sexy with 215/45 R16, once we get the flairs ill see if we can run 225 or 215 all the way around. hopeing for 15" rims later on.

Kmead ill get the suspension movement after i move and all the pics of the mounting points next weekend. as far as i can tell the car drives well, the only problems so far is the exhaust hutting the drive shaft and the springs are hitting the body.I am planing on getting to both real soon.

Thanks! Quite the set up. It will look pretty darn nice with the flares.

Thats a spider with some stance. Good luck with chasing all the details.

Right about now i wish that the P.O. had left the stock rear in it the 215's look like they would fit nice in the front with a roll and maby a small pull.I would like to know how the rear would take them.still trying to figure out what size tire to go with,if the flairs would take the 225 in the rear ill be able to run 15's and would look better :) but im getting verry used to the 16'S now and really starting to like it.

Still waiting on the 300 to come down this weekend and im hopeing all the # match, but from the junkyard searching i think the diff may be diferent. Once im positive on the rear suspension ill go out and get a new set of arms and start all over with them. I was able to take the car out around the block and it felt good but i still have to swap someone spiders for A bit and see how it compares.

thanks again
