repairing distributor pickups?

Post by wengr »

Hello, I've read alot here about the wires of the ignition pickup losing the insulation in the distributor. And sure enough mine are mostly bare. Does anyone have a good method of taking the pickup out, treating the wires to some new insulation of some sort in order to save the pickup? thanks in advance

I thing everyone just buys a new one, $40-50. You could try some liquid electrical tape, but I'd buy a new one. Twist the wires a few time to shorten them and keep them from getting pinched in the dizzy cap.

yes I believe I'll get a new one. But if I can fix up the existing one it would make a cheap spare for the trunk. Never heard of liquid electrical tape - I'll check it out. thanks

Gregory ,I did exactly that.I installed the new one(twist the wires like trey suggests) and kept the old as a spare.I wrapped the wires in old-fashioned electrical tape. They are good enough to get home in a pinch(pun intended)
