After the pinion nut came loose on SPYDUH's diff, the crown wheel and pinion completely destroyed themslves, but luckily the pseudo spring-loaded LSD centre escaped any damage. This was refitted into a really nice spare diff I found amongst my spares and the whole shebang was reassembled with new axle and pinion seals after flushing and cleaning out as much of the metal fragments from the housing as possible. Today I took SPYDUH for a decent run of about 50 miles, brought her home and while still hot drained the diff oil to get rid of any remaining shrapnel. All good so far
Then while refilling the diff with new oil the short copper pipe on end of my little oil pump dropped off and fell into the diff housing It took an hour of fishing around with a piece of wire to locate the 90 degree angled piece of pipe and coax it out the drain hole. I was almost at the stage of giving up and pulling the brakes and axles apart to remove the diff centre when it approached the correct angle to be worked through the hole. That was a relief
Hint: When pumping oil into components such as gearboxes and diffs, make sure the pipe and it's fittings are secure.
Here's a shot of the offending part now held firmly in place with SS lock wire.

I've fished items from:
The frame rail at the motor mounts
the shock tower holes
the cavity in the trunk
That's a new one, Curly. I'll be sure to keep your tip in mind, because with my luck, that's exactly what would happen to me.

I don't have time to fish. I have a spider. But I keep in mind all your stories.

Fishing items out of the cyliders via the plug hole is not fun....Hearing a rattleing noise on startup.... Heartwrenching
