My New Ride!

Post by Foster48x »

I just picked up a 1980 Fiat Spider 2000 for $1000. I had one just like it 17 years ago so It's like seeing a old friend again after many years apart. The car is in pretty decent condition. Runs (or did until I made a little jump starting error but thats for another post), trans shifts well, and will just need allot of TLC cosmetically. I'm excited about getting it back on the road and looking good! Rick

Here's are some pics

It looks like you got a very good deal for the money.
Does your car run OK when you first start it cold? It looks like there's been some changes made to the auxiliary air line, if I'm seeing the picture correctly.

Ron, your right the car does run a little rough at start. It looks like a few of the vacuum hoses are missing along with a few other homemade modifications made by the PO. I plan on posting on those issue later in another topic so hopefully you experts can help me out. Once it warms up the car seems to run fine.

mbouse, thanks for the welcome. Yea the garage is kinda full but you can never have enough "toys".

I know what you mean Katsi. I paid 1200 for mine and the only thing really good on it was the mechanicals had been rebuilt.

lol katsi I guess I just lucked out. I actually thought I might have paid too much. The seller was originally asking $1200 but accepted $1000. Hopefully the engine wont detonate on me the first time I decide to take a extended trip in it. I guess if it does I'm sure I can come close to getting my money back out of it by parting it out.

Yes, that looks like a really nice car for a bargain price. I know people around here would have paid twice that price for as good a car. As Ron said, you have at least one missing part, but it looks like you will have a runner in no time, and a great car for sprucing up. Welcome.

NIce looking car. Really nice wheels, very period correct.

Likely some rust issues in your future.

One comes to hate the previous owner(s) who have likely done you few favors beyond delivering the car to you through all those years.

Enjoy your new adventure.

You mean the half that is missing? Is that wrong? :) Lots of work for sure but it certainly is a good start.

I't's more than a ride. Every new Fiat is an adventure!
$1,000 well spent.

Evidently the PO didn't think it was wrong. Instead of replacing the brake fluid reservoir he put some kind of putty on the good half and split he reservoir hose with a "Y" connector. The brakes still work ok but it along with the vacuum hoses will be replaced before I drive it on a daily basis.
