Recently there has been a lot of talk on the Abarth hood and other scoopy things. So here goes the question from an old engineer. We suck ll the air in, radiator, air intakes in the hood, ..... So we get it all into the engine bay, where the hell does it go? Hmmmmm, you see most new super cars have outlets from the engine compartment. Kind of like wipe on....wipe off. Air in .... Air out.
So what are we to do? Looking forward to the talks!

Re: Where does the air go????
the air has to get out through the bottom, unless you've got holes in the firewall

Re: Where does the air go????
My first FIAT, a 1978 131 Superbrava, had vents in the back corners that let air out from under the hood. When idling for a long time, a lot of hot air escaped from them. Seemed like a good design.
I've always thought the idea of forcing the air to escape under the car wasn't a good design, but it probably helps with down force at higher speeds?

if you calculate the size of those little vents, it's much less than the size of the grille, so some of the air has to go out the bottom.
Re: Where does the air go????
The squirrels that run the roller cage in my engine use it breath.
Re: Where does the air go????
new CAFE standards will require the use of hamsters rather than squirrels.

Hamsters have a real short tail, don't get caught up in the wheel like a squirrels. (cause of a back-fire?)

Re: Where does the air go????
Has any one completed a study on the emissions coming out of the hamsters versus the squirrels? Oboma might not let us upgrade to the squirrels if the methane output is too high not too mention what to do with the pellets? Also if you wanted to upgrade your rodents to say weasels or ferrets it would probably be illegal in California for sure. I would send my car to Montana and have it upgraded to a badger!
Re: Where does the air go????
Here in the great state of TEXAS, you can pretty much upgrade to any type of animal except a dog. Chowowas and othe small dogs would be acceptable but not a real dog. In fact, I have a friend running 3 skunks in his old ford and most people just pat him on the back for keeping the skunk problem in check. Go TEXAS
Re: Where does the air go????
I hear there are lots of skunks in Tx, but most are in political office as they are in Calif
Re: Where does the air go????
Well, being that I was born and raised in San Diego, CA and have only been a Texan for about 5 years now, I can't really tell the skunks from the politicians. They all pretty much STINK!! Gotta love those smog laws CA though The skunks are never going to be happy untill we all commute in mass transportation pods to work where Soilent Green will be provided for lunch at no extra cost to the taxpayer - Well, if you consider 75% of your income as tax being no extra cost. Anyway, drive em while you can because the democrats (skunks) aren't going to stop untill all Americans are stripped of all individuality and style. Sorry!! Wrong forum.
