My car (78-1800) has had a small (drops only) leak from the proportioning valve since I ppurchased the car. Recently it decided to upgrade to a real leak. My question is wether to replace the valve or to bypass it? Any recommendations?
Thanks Jim

Re: Rear brake proportioner
Take it off, not needed and install a manual proportioning valve next to the master cylinder.

Jim,
Many would advise to simply by-pass the valve. Mark Allison even sells a by-pass hose for this purpose.

Re: Rear brake proportioner
You really do not need the extra plumbing to help trap air, and all the extra fittings. I cut my rear line, flaired it and ran directly to the tee on the rear axle. Never had a bias problem either...

Jim,
I Bypassed mine but I lowered the rear by using early 124 Coupe rear springs and my car does not dive or lift its ass up when braking. Not sure I would remove that valve if its a stock 2L. Having said that the aftermarket valves are shit. So not sure what I would do on a stock 2L. Anyone here bypass the valve with a stock 2000? Any feed back?
