Radiator for 1977 Spider vs. 1980

Post by spederman85 »

Can anyone tell me if a radiator from a 1976 Spider is the same as the one used in the 1980?

I am looking for a Radiator for my 1980 and someone has one from a 76. We are not sure if it will work.

Thanks,
Rich

not the same.

can you modify to suit your needs? possibly, but why go thru the hassle?

is your '80 rad so far gone that it cannot be recored?

It probably can be. I will have to bring it to someone to do that.

A gentlman on this Forum indicated he had a 76 that he just had recored for sale. It looks like that will not work.

Thanks for the reply!

The 1980 radiator is wider than the 76 for extra cooling capacity of the 2L vs. the 1.8L. The 76 rad. could fit in the 80 with some brackets, but you run the risk of decreased cooling capacity and hotter running temps. Having your existing rad re-cored is a good option, and gives you basically a new (and guaranteed) rad. Expect to pay $250-$300.

I also have a good rad from a 1980 if you are interested. matt.scarton@gmail.com
