My brakes again

Post by katsi »

Well, I tried one last time to bottle bleed my brakes and actually noticed a significant difference in the brake pressure :P . What I was wondering is, how much pressure should I expect when the car is NOT running? I wedged a broom stick in there to hold the brake peddle down and went to check all the rotors and they were all locked up good and tight. I could not move them at all. And, when I removed the stick, they all turned freely  . Anyway, I know I should get less performance without the motor running but, I was wondering just houw much less.

It's like this, the brake peddle goes down about half way and then stopps - Brakes ON! Lift up - Brakes OFF!

Down - brakes on UP - brakes off.

wax on, wax off !!

i have tried a rendition of a one-man bleed operation with dismal failure. there is no substitute, IMO, for a two person bleed crew. at my place, finding a helper is a touch-and-go or hit-and-miss situation. HOWEVER, it sounds like you may have the ticket.... half a pedal (with zero fade) when depressed.

time for a road test.

HMMMMM! Yes, a road test would definatly be the ultimate test at this point. But, getting someone over to help me with the brakes proved to be an impossibility. Lots of "Sure man, just give me a call anytime"'s but, not real shows. So, I fear that getting a good crew together in order to push me down the road while I slam on my brakes is going to be a bit thougher  . Anyway, I'll put the carb back on and hook it up and then start work on the cooling system. I sure I'll have lots of posts for you all to read with that whole mess  .

Installing a new radiator, and hoses - flush system.

By the way, any advice on how to properly flush the system? I plan to get a flush kit, hook up a hose and let her rip! 8)

if you are getting a flush kit, bleeding the system is a piece of cake. proper selection of the t-fitting intallation point is the key to an easy to maintain system.

once you install the fitting in the position depicted below, it becomes the highest point in the cooling system, and all air bubbles will eventually escape here.
