I heard a clicking noise yesterday coming from my distributor. I guess I should have looked then instead of thinking
" I will check that this weekend."

Heard clicking noise
Re: Heard clicking noise
i had that happen at speed... totally demolished the rotor and cap.
one of the screws holding the rotor in place came off. i now use red locktite on those screws.

Re: Heard clicking noise
Mark, I did not notice any other damage. Replaced cap and rotor, started right up. The fun part was doing it beside the highway, trying to hurry, the wind blowing, the wife holding the hood up.
Mike, I was going about 45 mph at the time. Thanks for the tip. I did notice that one of the threaded inserts did not have its screw in it when I gathered as many pieces as I could. I speculate that is what happened.

Re: Heard clicking noise
Have had this happen twice at speed. The second time, a piece of "shrapnel" from the cap sliced a plug wire nearly half, which is why I always have a cap, rotor and a spare plug wire or two in the trunk of the cars. Part of my standard "never leave home without it" FIAT kit!
Re: Heard clicking noise
LOL... used cap, used rotor, used (long) plug wire and one spark plug are in my tool box in the trunk as well.... one of the items sure to never fail as long as i carry the tool box.
