In CA you can use date of manufacture, (old) plates on 1969 and older cars. My 1969 Nova had the orig. black plates and I tried to put them back on after moving back from Oregon, but the dmv wouldn't let me, because the car was firts sold in 1970 and they say it has to be a 1969 plate! I tried to explain that they were the orig plates for the car and they even said that the plates were still assigned to the car in the computer, but I couldn't use them because they said 1970! If they said 1969 it would be no problem. Where do they find these people?

You may have seen this pic already but here is the '68 - '72 plate for Utah. Prior to this each year had its own plate, as well as '73 after that it was just a generic plate. I found this set on ebay' the last and only year they were used was '69. I will be registering these for daily use.
