I got just one word to describe your car: fantabularisticoolassweetothemax Now don't just stand there like Tony Stuart in the wet shine commercial, mesmerized by your wax job. Go out and drive that!

Your car looks outstanding. I like the woodgrain you chose - it's classy, not "over the top". You do good work.

here you go... . The powdercoat matches the car's color too so it turned out really nice.

Congratulations are in order. The car looks fantastic! It is nice when all that work comes together like that. What type of veneer is that? That color is very nice looking.

Hi Craig,

the veneer is a red oak that I found at our local Rona (similar to home depot or Lowes). It was real easy to use as it already had glue on one side. All I had to do was use the clothes iron with an old pillow case protecting the wood and iron it for about 1 minute which laminated the veneer to the old wood (I roughed up the old wood a bit with a palm sander prior to doing the laminating) Then I let it set up for a few minutes whilst doing the other pieces and using an exacto knife I cut out the holes. After that I used a dremel with a sanding wheel to clean the edges up a bit. After that I used the same stain (minwax) that I used on my shifter knob last year and put on a few coats of polyurethane spray (sanding lightly between the first two or three coats (the wood grain really came up after the first few coats)

All in all , the hardest part was putting the dash wiring back together... of course I managed to destroy the speedo cable so I had no idea how fast I was going until I found an Iphone app that told me my speed and g-forces.

I am going to see if I can find a small piece of the veneer to practice with on some spare parts. My next(winter?) project is going to be the interior, and I really like what you have done.Tappy also posted something a while back re. using veneer to finish his interior.Great job!!

the veneer I bought was $15 for 8 feet by 10"... I had plenty left over. Minwax was $7.99 and poly was $5.99 a spray can.

not bad $29.00 for a new dash look.
