Changing Motor Mounts, Any Caveats?
Changing Motor Mounts, Any Caveats?
I want to replace both mounts in my spider tonight...is it a straight-forward procedure of jacking the engine alternatively on each side and unbolting the mounts, or are there any traps for the unwary mechanic?

Pretty straightforward. Place a jack under the engine and snug it up. Remove the lower mount retaining nuts within the crossmember access hole from underneith. If you can loosen or remove the upper mount retaining nuts. the drivers side may be difficult depending upon you engine as the mounts are slightly different. The nut is very close to the side wall of the engine mount and removing it is difficult. I bought a cheap $1 wrench and ground down the box end untill it would fit over the nut.
Alternatively it's a little easier to remove the two studs and two bolts from each side of the engine mount to block, and remove the engine mount and bracket at once. Some of those studs/bolts go into the oil way, the oil level is below them so it will not leak out when you remove the bolts. While you got them out you can clean the hole and apply some sealer to the hole/bolt to prevent oil seapage.

Thanks Matt...which method is easier, removing the entire assembly or just the donut?

Probably a combination of all four. Remove the nut from the underside of the mount, loosen the upper nut (if possible), remove the studs and bolts from the bracket to block, and raise the engine a little bit. The length of the motor mount studs prevent removing it without lifting the engine a considerable amount, and the angled placement makes it even harder. You'll figure it out as you remove it.

Yep, the combination of all 4 did it, thanks for the tips!
