Post by adrians »

Ok - What's the correct Wheel Bolts Torque setting for an 81 Spider will Turbo Wheels ?

I searched the postings and found two different answers 50 and 65 pounds ? Which one's right ?

Thanks

In my manual, I found 50 lbs for the wheels. I have aftermarket 15 inch. So far they have stayed on.

The Owners Manual for the '78 quotes 51 ft -lb, but that's for steel bolts on steel wheels. If the Turbo wheels are aluminum, I believe a higher torque is appropriate because the aluminum will deform more easily. On my Porsche the standard torque is 94 ft lb with aluminum nuts on aluminum wheels. When I use steel nuts (to preserve the painted aluminum ones) I use 80 ft lb. I think you should use at least 60 to be sure.

THe manuall on my 124 sedan (stock steel wheels) says 52 lbs. The instructions for the Panasports (on the spider and coupe) say 65 lbs on most cars. That is what I run on them and I ahve never had a problem.
