What are the best or brightest headlights?

Post by RoadRacer »

My 82 Spider headlights are very dim and I am looking to replace them. What headlights do you use? I have driving lights as helpers but I need to replace the head lamps.

if the headlights are dim, first check and clean the grounds for those lights. Then upgrade to the relay conversion. This will brighten the lights by 50%

an '82 with an issue? hey Ron Lux... is this possible?

Question..will the '82 benefit from Brown Wire Surgery?

here is a write up for headlight relays:

generally, if these procedures are followed, you will not need to consider changing headlights.

Oh, absolutely an 82 can have issues. It's just that, being an 82, it is the most satisfying when the issues get resolved!
It's my personal opinion that the FI cars wouldn't benefit from the brown wire surgery. Our system has another brown wire direct from the battery (unfused) to the dual relay that supplies power to all the electronics for the FI controls. Also, there is another wire from the ignition switch to the dual relay for power to the fuel pump. My wipers operate at a good speed, and I have pretty bright headlights, and the large white connector behind the ignition switch has never so much as felt slightly warm. So considering all of this, I came to the conclusion that Fiat already did an alternate "brown wire surgery" when they went to FI.
Probably, you're right MIke, a good check on connections and grounds would go a long way to improving the situation.

When you think you have cleaned them sufficiently, throw a volt meter across the terminals at the headlights. if you have a two volt drop between battery voltage and voltage at the headlights, you won't be satisfied with the brightness until you install the relays.

remember that the relays provide a means of skipping all those connections (even the ones you cannot get to and clean)... fresh wires with zero connections eliminate the resistence buildup causing lost voltage.
