awful noise

Post by blanchardkeith »

I have had my whole front end redone. Control arms, bushings, ball joints, shocks ect. When I brake there is a creak/groan from my pass. front end. Does it when I am braking from 20 to stopping. when I pump the brakes it does it in time. Think it might be when the front compresses and the shock and spring are compressing.
Tried to tight the shock. How much is too tight on the threads on the top? Slowly getting worse. I don't think it is the brake or pad. But it is sounding horrible! Help!

will it make the noise if you bounce the front end up and down? There are/were lots of poor quality bushings on the market and they fail prematurely

It does make it slightly when I push hard up and down. That is why i thought it was the shock and the tightness. I had gotten the bushings from vicks just last year.

You may also want to check the sway bar bushings, and the barcket to see if it has brken. I loose bar can make a heck of a racket

1. Were the bushings final torqued with the vehicle weight on the suspension? This can cause almost instantaneous bushing wear due to the torque preload placed on the bushing as the suspension is compressed.

2. Were the ball joints and tierod ends properly greased? A dry joint can cause one hell of a noise, and often only heard at specific suspension/steering positions.

3. Are your subframe mount bolts tight? Look for an orange haze around the bolts, this would indicate movement/shifting of the component. The orange haze is produced from oxidized metal dust created by the components "grinding" together.

4. Check your sway bar bushings...Are they dry or worn?

You would not believe how many times I have seen these little items overlooked...by master techs!
