I am putting a 1.8 head onto a 2L FI block.(stock cams) I have, although likely not much of a benifit, included the oversize valves from IAP. after a slight re-surface of the head(5 thou.) and the oversize valves, the intake valves are "superior" to the surface of the head when closed. I should check the distance, but if I had to guess about 10 thou. enough to feel when using the touch test.
Will a normal gasket give enough clearance? anyone have a problem with this set up?
Thanks
Chris

Re: another head gasket question
that situation is normal. The oversize valves really help on the top end, so you might not notice much difference with them.

Re: another head gasket question
Top end.. There's this cheeky mgb I see on the hwy on occasion. If I see the local constables parked at the Tim Horton's donuts. Well perhaps I might see if this does help the top end, currently the speedo has no problem going past the 85mph with the current stock engine with headers and mild porting and polishing on the 2L head.
Looking forward to when this engine is ready and do the swap.
Thanks for the info about the clearances, sounds like I don't have anything to worry about. Putting the cams on the head this week and doing the shimming.
