it wont go over 5000 revs

Hi guys.
Well i am just back from a 3 day rally on the Istra peninsula on The Croatian coast. My 77 124 spider went well apart from one thing. It wont rev over 5000. It gets there fine then its as if its hit a rev limiter. Its got a new carb but someone said its my distributer. Has anyone else suffered this and if so was this and is this maybe the sourse of the problem. The points, condensor and coil are all new.

I had an issue like that and the mechanical advance in the dist wasn't working, (actually it was working too good, springs were weak so I was getting full advance at idle, when you set the timing and no more advance later). You can rev it with a timing light attached and see it it"s working properly.

it depends on what happens at 5k; does it just flatten out or misfire? With a new carb I wonder if the secondaries are opening, and if the jetting is correct

The carb came straight of another spider that was working well. I am thinking along the distributer lines. How easy is this to fix or is it a case of a complete distributer.

By the way does anyone have a set of the old spider indicators that fit on the body. I saw a few at the weekend and like them. But one guy told me some crazy price for a pair.
