good idea , i have problems with mine popping open randomly , a smart garage keeper used duct tape and removing that i've pulled of some paint :(

an other lock didnt solve the problem , i think with the new motormounts the engine is in higher , i even cant get the original turltleback aircleaner on , so i've replaced it with some K&N air filters , i could trie another hatch but i dont think that will help

that said extensive pulling wil open the hood , but i dont garanty no damage

The lock I sent you did not work? Did you get Fiat motor mounts? I've heard that Volvo 240 motor mounts are the same design but about 1/4" to 1/2" inch shorter.

Guys,

I've been told that the Subaru Leone engine mounts are the same as the Fiat ones, only shorter. Used here in Australia when fitting 2.0l engines into AC coupes.

Love it Mike. Gona put one on now. likely on the firewall though as I have wheel well liners. My back-up was a bit dodgy looking so when it came to inspection to get it insured, I replaced some of it with net twine and proper knots. worked good enough to pass but this is way more professional.

Why not just replace the original emergency hood release cable with a new cable? The third cable seems a bit redundant. Belt + suspenders + elastic waist pants.

Matt... yup, triple redundancy, just like NASA. of course, the feeble stock emergency cable could definitely be eliminiated with a simple snip with the wire cutters. if mine gets in the way someday, i will indeed perform that surgery. until then, hurts nothing to leave it hanging.

narfire... yup, took me roughly forty minutes total, including the time to take the pictures, remove and reinstall the carburetor linkage (taken off for picture clarity).

Mike,
I have to second the excellent "how to" for the redundant hood release. Unfortunately I now have yet one more item added to the ever growing list of things that must be done before returning my Spider to the road. Though this project will be a piece of cake once I finally get the motor pulled - plenty of room to work in there without a pesky motor getting in the way.

What about sliding a long thin metal bar, kinda like a slim jim, from underneith inbetween the fire wall and motor from the passenger's side? You could get it cought on the relise mechinism and then give it a good wack. Maybe

Or possibly a metal framer's square. That would allow for a good angle from the passenger's side. Again, a good wack will be needed. No. you'll never get around the exhaust.

How about shimming something between the hood and the body to relise the latch. might take a few tries but, you could go to someone who has a spider and pretty much match up the tool or bent metal needed. Then you could just put a towell down as not to scratch you paint too much. :P

Mike,
I've got another "project simplifier" for you. I still haven't installed the shorter shifter I got from you - figured I'd wait to mess with it when the transmission is out being rebuilt. Might as well change the "how to" you send for the shifter to include "pull the transmission and place on suitable work surface" since it has to be easier to swap out with the tranny sitting on a work bench then trying to work in a cramped interior. :D

i dunno about that one. i have proven my step-by-step for the Michigan SHORTER SHIFTER is pretty dang simple as written.

maybe if you drop your top before beginning the install process you will discover literally, that the sky is the limit ?? !!
