HI All,
Am unsure were I want to go with my Fiat, and thought I would bounce some thoughts off everybody...
I have had a 72 now for a couple years, after some tinkering it runs & drives like a swiss watch, although I don't hardly drive it. For the most part it is original, and with the help of a parts car and the kind folks on the board, I have managed to find most everything I have needed. The top is trashed, but I do have a nice top on the parts car. THe paint is poor (green) but that is fine with me.
The only rust thru is on one of the rocker panels, and that is very minor, but the whole car seems to have a case of surface rust. Control arms, underbody, any uncoated metal has rust on it, although it is for the most part just surface rust. How long will it take this kind of rust to eat thru everything?? I have been slowly cleaning up the rust, but it is a big job, and I do have a real job, other real hobbies, and am not sure it is worth the work. Any advice on the rust?? I am not really concerned about making it beautiful, am more concerned about keeping it functional. Any good web sites dealing with rust issues?? SHould I just enjoy it as is for the next few years till it returns to dust?? Anything quick and easy I can do to slow down the inevitable??
Any thoughts appreciated.
Keith

I like POR15 Metal Ready for dissolving surface rust and Master series aini-rust paint for after. It's similar to POR15, bt easier to work with. The only way you're really going to get rid of surface rust on the exterior is to strip it to bare metal.
