Clock Question

I have looked through the forum and read everything I could find on the clock. I have the bezel off and have the clock out of the case, but how do you get the clock adjustment knob off ?

Once I get it off I am going to put on a new one. ( one which I will make using the old as a templete).

If that small adjustment knob does not want to come off then don't force it as it will easily break, or you will pull the whole shaft out of the clock mechanism. The best thing to do is drill the hole in the appropriate place then cut to the edge to make it a slot. Its so close to the edge, and once the black trim ring is back on you will not notice.

forcing that plastic knob will damage it at the least... or like Matt says, turn an otherwise functioning clock into a pile of parts ..

patience and the ability to know when to give up are the two things you need for this task.

or gently use 2 sets of pliers one to hold the shaft , the other to get the knob of but be aware those clocks even break if you dont touch them ....

You should be able to unscrew the adjustment knob cap from the shaft. Use needle nose pliers on the shaft and unscrew the cap counter clockwise.
Let me know if your need help in getting the bezel off so you can get the glass off, I did it last year and can give you the technique that worked for me.

I was able to get mine apart without damaging it, but Denise said she's had trouble getting it without fatal results. When I did it I used a very thin bladed screw driver and uncrimped the bezel very carefully. It's a fairly soft aluminum, so it bends easily, but it could be brittle from age, so just go slow. Let me know if you need more info.

That clock is trouble. Every one that I have seen has fogged over and is inoperative. I tore my down after locating a source that sold the glass replacement. Well, it is now a clear view of an still inoperative clock with a totally ratted out black bezzle. I have been looking for a solution for a while. There was a guy that saw a obvious need for this item and he was making an aftermarket replacement that looked the same but worked. I do not know what the power source was. The current clock, it a hot lead to the electrical system and does pull constant juice which, I think, is a problem for a car that sits. I hope the aftermarket clock that matches and works is still out there. I currently have a stick on and it looks very tacky, but I know what time it is.

i've seen many a fogged over plastic lens in a Spider clock, but amazingly every one i have experienced has worked.

replacement lens is as easy as the el cheapo flashlight at the checkout counter. no need to pay shipping for that expensive glass lens.

i know of no replacement black bezels, but IAP sells a stainless steel kit of bezels for our gauges.

I attended the Ron Luxmore School of Clock Repair & Truck Driving .
The clock set shaft that sticks out of the glass is metal but the finger tip is plastic. The shaft has a knurl crimped into it. The plastic tip is just forced fit on it. Two needle nosed pliers will do the job. I put fabric for the pliers to grip so it didnot damage the pieces. The end tip will come out by turning it slowly and slightly pulling it out to the end of the metal shaft.

My clock worked, but was SOOO NOISEY. When you went into the garage you could hear it running. I replaced it with a a/f gauge. I just got done taking all my gauges apart to clean them, I must not be as patient as Ron, It's a good thing I'm putting chrome bezels over them.

I also replaced the lens on mine, the clock btw works fine. After getting the bezel off I noticed that the paint had flaked around the edges and rim despite working the back flange with a jewlers tiny screw driver and laying the face on a towel. I steel wooled the bezel and repainted using Eastwoods under hood black (spray can). IHO you cannot tell the difference.
