Has there ever been discussion of the options of lash caps vs machining cam boxes to make shimming valve adjustments on small base circle reground cams. I haven't been able to find any, but don't know the right key words.

Or another option is to have additional material welded onto the end of the valve stems, and then ground to the desired length. Mark Alison can probably have it done for you or refer you to someone. This is what was done for mine.
Lash caps sounds like a simple solution, but the cons are that I wouldn't know where to find them, and there's the possibility of them falling off.
Machining down the cam towers presents issues with timing belt length and just setting the valve timing in general -- may need to use adjustable cam pulleys to correct for the timing.

Re: LashCaps
Running shims and a lash caps is a bad bad idea. I run my race motor with out the gasket to make up for the base circle difference. Just some high temp RTV for sealant.

Re: LashCaps
Where to get things is never a problem for me I just make everything. I made lash caps on my Moretti but the valve stem between the keeper and the end was twice as long as my 1608. I also could make shims as thick as I would need(extra weight) Guy Croft mentiones lash caps.

Halg,
Yes Guy does mentions lash caps but these are to be used with solid bucket followers (i.e. not top shim) Your other choice is to cut the valve seat deeper.
