Another rear brakes problem

Post by marco007 »

Hello all,
This is the second time in six months that i found the rear wheels stopped by the brakes. Any suggestions?
Another questions is related to the rear suspension... what kind of shock suspensions are suggested as a good replacement for the rear? I mean... good for driving securely but, also, confortable.
I have a 1978 124 spider.

Regards,

Marco

could be sticking calipers or compensator or collapsed hoses. Did you do any repair the last time it happened?
As for shocks, I like the KYB GR2 for street use

Marco,I just went a couple rounds with my rear brakes.I ran into problems rebuilding them, and opted for new calipers.Money well spent.I bought from one of our vendors, but found later Napa had them for a good price.Braking is now straight and strong.I also like the KYB GR2 shocks.Good ride, pretty responsive, and excellent price.I ordered from shockwarehouse.com and got all 4 for lessthan $100.

My Emer brake cable was binding, not allowing the brake to release fully.

As per earlier posts, check the hand-brake, I would also recommend the KYB GR2 - I've been using them for the road and on the track.

Solved!
Thanks to all... the brake problem was caused by:
- a blocked caliper
- a blocked brake hose
The adopted solution was to repair the old caliper.
For what concerns the shocks absorber, I finally got KYB for the front and SASCH.. for the rear.
In all this story I realized that: fiat 124 is italian, I live in Italy but... it is better to be in USA with that car (and, also, I would prefer more the actual USA president rather then... ok... no politic!)... I could not found the KYB for the rear in Italy and, furthermore, I paied for the pair of KYB more than the double that I found from the web-site it was suggested by you.
Anyway... spring is coming... roof is over...

Bye

Congratulations Marco! Glad you solved the problem.
Your comments about owning a Spider here in the US versus in Italy is interesting. I guess we are fortunate that we have good sources of supply for our cars here.
