We need to start posting VIN numbers to see what's out there

I just bought a Fiat Spider Vin # 124AS000990 for 200 bucks. It says 1968 on the non original title but looking under wikipedia, that vin no may be a 67? Can anyone help me out?

I changed it, not a 69, need new glasses, it says 68

You have the 990th spider ever built. Cool

Look in the engine compartment, on the firewall and see if the numbers match what is on the car plate. Look under the car and see if the drive shaft is in a tube.

Fiat did a awfull job accounting for vehicles produced in a year, and sold in the same year. It may be near impossible to actually tell for sure, especially on older Fiats! I have been told many times that my 61 is'nt!

Their record keeping was, well, non-exsitant. That was a big culture shock for me having been involved with German cars for many years. The folks at Porsche or BMW can provide just about every single detail for you car regardless of age. But if you want the passion, beauty and uniqueness that only an Italian car can provide, record keeping generally isn't part of the package.
