Idle stop solenoid

Post by josh76 »

The previous owner has removed most of the emissions equipment. When I acquired the car the carb was removed. Since then I have gone and taken out some more of emissions related equipment.

The question is: If I want to hook up a switch to manually activate the idle stop solenoid am I going to want that to be normally energized? Normally off? Only energized when warming up?

I guess being born 4 years after this car was running the streets, I am not that familiar with the emissions and carburetor details.

Thanks for the help.

when the idle cutoff solenoid is de-energized fuel flow thru the idle circuit is stopped. So the car won't idle unless you crank up the idle speed to about 1500 rpm. This solenoid is not emission related, it's to prevent run-on when you shut off the engine. It should be energized with the key on
