Has Anyone ordered these panels before?

Post by SlickItalian »

I want to see if anyone has ordered them before I order them myself.

Thanks!

I was thinking of trying to make my own before I blow that kind of cash on those. I missed out on a pair on ebay last fall for 150 bucks and am still kicking myself.

Guys,

I'm thinking about recovering door panels, seats, console, dash, radio, etc. for reasonable rates much cheaper than what's on Ebay at least, much better looking than formed dashes, etc..

My contract at my company ends in June and rather than travel around the country on contract and being away from my family, I was thinking about doing this for a couple of months based on how many orders I would get, mind you I could probably cover 3 sets of door panels a week or 2 floor consoles a week, etc.

I would cover the consoles, dash, door panels, etc. if you send me the original and give me an indication of the color and material type, etc.

You could PM me for more info... but it's just an idea for now.

Having seen your work, I'd say it's an excellent idea Nick.

Great idea !!

if you put togheter a price list i can see what i can get sold here in europe i bet there's some demand in Belgium , the Netherlands ,and especially Germany

Or when you have patterns they would be worth selling 2 I'm thinking something on a cd you can have plotted and take to your local upholstery. Selling those would be easy to email anywhere on the world ....

keep us posted !!

That sounds great, Nick. Can you post a link for all of us to see your work?
As for the price of the door panels on Ebay, it's not that bad of deal considering they have all the chrome and stainless pieces on them.

chromed steel kick panels are N.L.A. according to my research last year.

working with vinyl is not a difficult thing to master on flat surfaces like door panels. the materials are not that expensive either. I am certain that both panels could be recreated from all new material for substantially less than $400.

Thanks all,

I will have to source some of the hardware items first to get a feel for the parts needed (chrome rings for the door panel, etc.) altough I've bought them before but they were quite costly, and a timeframe of delivery after I received your items along with cost to do the work, I can post more pics of the detail in the work I've done, etc.

This is only a test for the feel of how many responses I get, if not many then my proposals for contract requirements to prospective aerospace companies (we all know how well this segment is - SIC) would put me out of contention for doing the upholstery.

Nick, I've got a bunch of the trim rings I'll sell you if you decide to go with making door panels. I had to buy a bulk of them and only needed a few.

Here are some pics of the work I did on my son's car:

Here is my latest on my car to date, seats are in the car but it's raining outside so I'll post the seat pics this weekend.

This very look or similar or any design could be done based on what you like based on pics you send me or sketch.

Denise, I would like to pick them up from you if I decide to make a go of this, so far it seems favorable.

I will tell you based on the Ebay pic of the door panel, the vinyl material used is the cheapest I've seen, the material I use is a true leather feel, it actually smells like leather, stretches like leather and will clean easily, this material costs $40 a yard. It's the same material used on Mercedes/BMW/high end cars.

Where do I sign up? or send my stuff?

I'm slowly starting to get my spider up to the standards that I want it to be at and this would be perfect!
