Lancia block in a fiat

Post by wengr »

the block in my fiat has Lancia cast on the high rear of the driver side. Might this be appropriate for an 83 or did a PO do a swap?

That is a swap out by PO. Very common to find part that are interchangable among Fiat companies, hunted down by owners and installed . No I dont think it is factory.

Check the engine number on the block. Fiat engines will start 132A... or similar, from memory the Lancia engines start with 828.

I have an '82, and if memory serves me correctly, I have Lancia stamped on my block as well. And I know that it is the original block. As Perthling suggested, you need to check the engine number that is stamped into the side of the block just above and to the right of the oil filter housing. The engine numbers for 2-liter F.I. models are 132C3.031 for the California emmission model and 132C3.040 for the other 49 states. If your engine has either of these numbers, it is the correct engine type for your vehicle. There is really no way of verifying that it is the actual original block based on serial numbers, only that it is the correct type.

Interesting...

I have original block pictures from mine. I trust Ray when he said it had never been touched (it was quite nasty) and the PO said it also nothing had really been replaced on the car. I'm the 2nd owner.

Image

You can see after cleaning and blasting it says both Fiat and Lancia and what looks like a "188 AR 1". Ray said he had not seen Lancia stamped on any of the other engines before, but he's never rebuilt one that came off a Pininfarina. Possible that these are just the later engines, I thought it was kinda cool. Yes, he did stamp the VIN # and rebuild date on it!

mine is so greasy It's possible I just did not see the the fiat logo. now that I know where to look for the #, I'll check it and I'm betting it will be original.

there should be a correct engine number stamped in just above the oil filter element

my Bet its 138 AR and according to my list they are the same blocks as used on the Ritmo (strada) ABARTH

here' r some interesting sites on lookup for your engine :

Sounds like the combo engine was used during the Pininfarina sales years 83-85. Does anyone have a block with Lancia on it earlier than that? The one thing I have found out about these cars is that there is always an exception to something they've done.
