Re: DEAL OR NO DEAL WHAT DO YOU THINK
No deal...and that's coming from someone who owns a brown spider.
Here's why:
The black top does NOT work with the brown. Need beige.
Tires wrong size
Too much non -original/ mods.
Not mint, which when you get to 7k in this market you kind of expect.
At a lower price maybe..like 4-5. No way 7, IMHO.

mint condition? i'd have to see it to believe that. We all know what crap some folks try to pull when selling a car. Craig's List is not imune to any of that. ask for seven ska-zillion pictures before you motor over to inspect in person.
$7,000 is his top dollar asking price. Depending on the condition and the location, any car may be worth that. consider how much out of your own pocket you'd have to spend to bring a $1,500 project car to mint condition. could you do it for under $5,500 ??? the paint job alone, not considering body work, would run in excess of $3,000.
location is also relevant, as is available alternatives. In "winter wonderland" (michigan) a mint condition vehicle is nearly unobtainium. So $7,000 for a locally available truly mint car would be a steal.
my buddy just insured his Spider with Hagarty for $10k. His other option was $7,500 agreed value. I'd have settled for the lower option if i were him, considering the true condition of his car.... but he thought he could afford $15 / year extra.
value and worth are relevant words. takes both a willing buyer and a willing seller to establish value or worth.

Agree with the needing beige as to me it would give it a richer look .. and $4-$5 sounds more like to me also. LDsjmst wrote:No deal...and that's coming from someone who owns a brown spider.

Re: DEAL OR NO DEAL WHAT DO YOU THINK
Location ,,popularity ,condition of car and just how bad you want it is what makes a car worth what it is , I am not interested in buying the car ,,just wanted some opinons like you have given me on what you thought about the ad and all. I really was looking around to see what I thought mine is worth and I have come up with $4750 and that would allow me to come down a couple hundred.. Re: DEAL OR NO DEAL WHAT DO YOU THINK
Brown is the least popular color as far as resale value (sorry not to offend all brown car owners!). It could be worth what he is asking as it does have a few nice things (rebuilt engine, nice paint, 13" iron cross alum rims). But...
I would not want want this car because (besides the color):
- Wrong color top
- Pile carpet vs. the original corn row loop (much lighter & does not match- look at the door carpet)
- Roll bar (hard to slide the seats and almost impossible to use the back with this installed)
- Possible new seats?
- Cracked dash (pain to install and dash cap is always obvious)
- Cracked center console (pain to install)
- No mention of any suspension being addressed?
I'm a girl- I think about cosmetic appearances and how many non-fun hours it would take to replace something. I don't care about the higher miles, but a lot of people (CL & Ebayers) do. Also, for this price I know of an '85 with just as much (or more) mechanical work done on it.
You can find reasonable or rust free project cars all over the Northwest (shhhh....) It might have moss growing in it and some sort of weird McGuyver part on it but it will still be a deal.

Whow ! If I may use a base ball saying ,,it would be "Good Eye Darsella " You should stop in more often ,, nice observations ...LDDarsella1 wrote:Brown is the least popular color as far as resale value (sorry not to offend all brown car owners!). Re: DEAL OR NO DEAL WHAT DO YOU THINK
wow, you guys are a tough crowd. I don't think the car is too bad, and I'm happy to see advertised prices going up on decent cars. Color choice is what it is. I think it's nice to see a Spider that hasn't undergone 3 color changes

Re: DEAL OR NO DEAL WHAT DO YOU THINK
A brown car is indeed an "off color" and that's coming from someone who has one.. But that's not really my main issue with the car. It is a hodgepodge of little mistakes, as already noted. So Cal Mark wrote:wow, you guys are a tough crowd. And, BTW, the "brown" of the Spider in original form is a very nice bronze color. Once repainted, it tends to lose that and look more dark brown for some reason.

It's not that it's a bad car for what he is asking. It's just my personal criteria of what I would look for at that price for discussion purposes. There are certain things some people would not mind, vs. would bother me.
