Two-wheeled Italian vehicle

Post by Michael N. Marcus »

My first Italian motor vehicle was a '64 Vespa 150cc motorscooter, which is now a stablemate to my '78 Spider.

The Vespa's starter died about 20-25 years ago. Every few years, I think about reviving it, and this may be the year. Now that Vespa is back in the US, parts should be readily available. There is a dealer about 30 minutes from here, but I'd like to try to fix it myself, first. I do have several manuals.

I assume the procedure is similar to reviving an old Fiat: first clean out the crap. Then replace the spark plug, cables, hoses (if any?). Then deal with the starter.

The gas tank presumably holds what used to be a mixture of 50-cent gas and 2-cycle Pennzoil.

My wife says I should put the Vespa in the dumpster, or have it crushed into a cube and put a glass tabletop on it. I'm hoping to get some more optimistic advice here.

Wives never like the "old crap" we keep around. That is why I have my own garage. If she doesn't like it it goes to my garage. If she does it goes in the "family garage". My garage is getting too small. ...J.D. :)

Wives may come, wives may go, but how often does one find a '64 Vespa!

Look in the phone book and count the number of entries for Crushers... then flip over to the Attorneys section and count the number of PAGES!
