piston purchase

Post by narfire »

Question: Is there a prefered brand of piston for the spider? I'm toying with the idea of adding a new set of pistons in my FI spider. There seems to be a few brands on the market and am wondering if anyone out there has had issues with one over the other. I have put an older 1800 head on and added headers with some mild head work. I'm not racing but driving around the area on nice days. I have been offered 85mm and a set of I think Mondale's .4mm over. The cylinders will be bored to fit.
On another note the re-paint should be finished this weekend and I can start putting the little red head back together. I'll post photos next week.
Thanks for any insight.

I don't have any suggestions on piston makers/manufacturers, but you shouldn't go overboard with the overboring. If you fit 85mm pistons, then that will be the last pistons the engine sees and there is no option to do a larger overbore if something goes wrong.
