Door Chime

I was under the dash this morning and I found a black relay next to the FI comp., and it was unplugged. My assumption is that it is the Door chime relay ( SIPEA 0635 ) ? DOes any still use theirs ?

I saw in a previous post that you can use the wiring from the relay to power the radio ?

That's exactly what I did with mine. Disconnected the chime and used the chime wires to power the radio. So every time the key is in the ignition the radio works. Only bad thing is I can not the leave the key in the ignition when the car is in the garage.

I wired the door buzzer to come on when I leave the lights on (when door opens). Can't recall exactly how I tied it into the door jamb switch/chime circuit...but if I can figure it out anyone can. The buzzer on ym 74 is the old annoying buzzer....sounds like a drunk hornet in your ear. It can hardye be called a "chime" like the later models (I think)

I tried the ignition/radio thingie....great idea but I guess my ignition is pretty worn out because the radio kept cutting out. Found that if I jiggled the key it would lose poswer.....I'll definetlly do it this way if I ever need to get a new ignition switch though!

I did that also...now every time I open the door, the radio starts playing. LOL

both the '78 and the '80 came from their previous caretakers with the door chime disconnected.

in the case of the '80...the chime was missing. in the case of the '78 it was just disconnected.

i have installed the two litre "tinkle bell" variety to both vehicles and they function as designed...reminding me that i left my keys in the ignition.

my lights shut off when the ignition is off, as designed from the factory, but i don't use the running lights only option.

i use the cigar lighter circuit for the radio.
