There are a couple of spots where I need to make gaskets. Does it matter what kind of gasket material I buy? Should I use different material if it is a 'dry' application vs a 'wet' application? Coolant, vs oil, vs fuel?
Actually, I think I only need to make gaskets for EGR connections, but I am curious about the other applications as well.
Reyy - when you were here, I forgot to ask you about carb gaskets. Do you have any that I could get from you?

I need to rearrange a few things to make it there that weekend, Steve. I will see what I can do. Sorry I can't give 100% commitment just yet.
Just a thought: Ryan has a rear sway bar waiting to be installed on his spider, I need to install some check-valve brake bleeders, maybe there are a few other little tasks needing done on other cars. You’ve got a nice big flat open area with easy access in and out. Maybe we could have several operations going on at one time there, and everybody bring a little pot luck donation for eats throughout the day. The number one goal, of course is to get Steve’s car rolling again.
I’m getting ahead of myself. I need to get the day cleared on my schedule first.

Steve,
I like the thicker grey paper for gaskets over the thin beige paper. It should work well for coolant, oil, and fuel. A light coating of RTV on each side of the gasket will ensure no leaks, but don't overdo it and have it squishing out all over the place, because if its squishing out on the outside, then you can be sure its squishing out on the inside and can get dislodged and block up an oil galley or oil way...not good.
For the exhaust and hotter gaskets like the EGR, it realy should be a metal gasket sandwitched between two outer coatings, similar to the intake, exhaust, and cam box gaskets. But I guess if you have ultra high temp RTV gasket compound it should work, as I have it on my header flange to cylinder head interface with no problems.

That's what it's sounding like it's shaping up to be Steve. With more than one car to work on, there'd be less nap time though.

and as I am gaining confidence in my car, I am driving it harder. I took it over old Fullerton road today, and found the car's limit, as it started to understeer. I know that road like the back of my hand, and wasn't surprised where it broke loose... just surprised that it did. Granted I was going about 2x the speed limit. A little over 30 in a 15mph turn, I used to do more than that as a kid in a '68 mustang. Granted the mustang had a tendency to oversteer... it still never broke loose in that corner under 45.
The sway bars NEED to go in!
So, it happens tomorrow. Time to give my beloved Fiat the ankles that will allow the shoes to stick to that road!
So unless I am a complete failure tomorrow, this project will be done in time for the Scorp run... and will not be on the agenda for Sunday at Steve's.
Lets focus on Steve's machine!
Lets get Steve's '76 back on the road!

I'm totally ok with having a couple more projects going at the same time. There's plenty of room to get a couple more cars in the work area, and while some of us focus on my car, others can focus on others. The more the merrier.
