RACK & PINION STEERING CONVERSION

Post by robr »

I am about to change a CS1 spider to right hand drive using a steering rack from a 131. Can anyone tell me the distance between the rack tube and the xmember on the late model spiders with an origional steering rack assembly? With this information I will be able to mount (weld) the holding brackets for the rack onto the existing xmember.

Some time ago member 'lancia HF' sent me some 'photos of the rack assembly on his car but I can't get the measurement from the 'photos.

Hi Rob,

Those pictures were not of my car (I Wish), but of ones I found on the internet. Your best bet is to ask someone at turbo124.com, They do a lot of rack conversions.

85.5 had 22mm front swaybar, vs 20mm if that helps at all.

There are also exhaust issues. You will need to fabricate custom exhaust, use a late model OEM part or get some advise or installing it. Otherwise it runs too close and will melt the rubber on the rack and other issues.

Csaba did it on his 1971. Here's a link to his page, but I didn't see contact info, you might catch him on Mirafiori.
