Re: Disaster
fine, then ill sand blast the parts you want to repaint on the engine. i still got a couple engine stands. you could use one to work on the motor before it goes in. it really sucks to work on a motor thats sitting on the floor. let me know.

Re: Disaster
It sounds like it would be easier to use Reyy's stand. (Easier for me anyway.) If that doesn't work and I end up bringing Ace's over, meeting somewhere sure works for me.

Re: Disaster
It looks like I'm going to be picking up both the car and the new engine on Thursday morning.
Reyy, Ron and Alvon - I think using Reyy's engine stand is a great alternative to Ron having to drive all this way.
Reyy - will you be home around mid-day on Thursday? Maybe Ryan and I can come by with the engine and talk to you about sandblasting, as well as pick up an engine stand. If not, we'll just bring the engine back here and I can bring parts over when it works for you. You can call me at (626) 224-8241 if you need to.
Thanks again to everyone!

Honestly, I don't know. I started a new thread here (http://www.fiatspider.com:16080/f08/vie ... f=3&t=5081) to try to get some help with answering that very question. Would love to hear your thoughts. So Cal Mark wrote:what parts are you planning to sand blast?

Re: Disaster
Steve,
Just catching up with your misfortune and have to say I feel for you. Sounds like you are in good hands, though. We have all made costly mistakes at one point or another. Just to make you feel better, two years ago I was doing a routine oil change on my wife's Ducati, which we had just sold. I thought I would be nice and change the oil for the new owner before she came to pick up the bike. For some unknown reason, I managed to over-tighten the drain plug on the aluminum engine case and I cracked the case. Engine ruined. Dealer estimate to replace the case exceeded the value of the bike. So I had to refund the money to the person who bought the bike, and I went through the same process as you -- first freaking out, then blaming myself for being an idiot, then wondering do I part it out or what? I am certainly not qualified to rebuild a Ducati engine. In the end, a friend suggested a used motor. I was able to locate the exact year/model motor out of a wrecked bike. Ironically, the wrecked bike's odometer was within 200 miles of my wife's bike. I purchased a good Ducati repair manual and a friend and I pulled the old motor out and installed the new one over a weekend. The whole thing cost me less than $800 and we sold the bike the following Spring for about $500 more than before. So it all does really work out in the end. Be glad you have an outstanding Fiat support group, which I am sure you will continue to contribute to for years to come. Today, I have the old Ducati engine mounted on the wall in my garage as a reminder to chill out -- everything in life has a way of workinig itself out.

Re: Disaster
Thanks John - wise words. It has been quite an adventure, and I know that I am going to come out of it knowing a lot more about my car. All things considered, though, I could have done without it.
